Do I need an appointment?

Walk-ins are welcome, however appointments are highly recommended. Tip: if your schedule permits, make an appointment for a weekday. Since we are less busy Monday through Friday, we will have more time to help you find everything you need for your dream wedding.

Alterations do require an appointment. Your bridal consultant can help schedule an appointment for alterations.

What should I bring to try on dresses?

Now that you have set the date…or not, it’s time to search for that perfect gown. Take along your MOH, family, or a trusted friend. You may want to bring a strapless bra, however if you don’t that’s ok too. You can bring in pictures of gowns that you like as well. Most importantly bring an open mind and get ready to have some fun!

Do you allow us to take pictures?

Of course. We know this is a big decision, not to mention an investment, and we want to help you envision what you would look like on your wedding day.

Do you accept returns?

All sales are final. This “final sale” policy is consistent with the industry standard for bridal and special occasion apparel. To better understand why all sales are final, you need to look at the process of getting your special gown, veil, shoes, bridesmaid dresses, and flower girl dress. When you pick the gown or dress of your dreams, it is then ordered from the designer in your size, color and/or with special additions or modifications. Your gown or dress then goes into production and takes approximately five to seven months to arrive in our store.

What are your payment options?

We accept cash, personal checks (except for pick-ups), cashiers checks, money orders, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. We require a 60% deposit on all special orders. The remaining balance is due when the dress/item arrives in the store. Please note ALL purchases, whether special orders or in-stock gowns, are FINAL SALES. Deposits are NON-REFUNDABLE if your wedding plans change.

When should I start shopping for a gown?

It is never too early to start looking for your bridal gown. Many brides start shopping right after they get engaged (some even earlier!). It is a good idea to plan ahead at least eight months to order your gown which allows for delivery and, if necessary, alterations. Many of our gowns take approximately five months to arrive depending on the designer. Bridesmaid dresses take approximately three months.

Why don’t you have the gown or dress I want in my size and/or color?

The Bridal Boutique is a specialty store for your bridal needs. To give you the most choice of gowns and dresses, we typically carry only one “sample” of each gown or dress. This “sample” gown or dress is typically in a bridal size 2 – 26 and is in a color of choice by the designer. When you find your wedding gown or bridesmaid dress, we then order it for you in your size, color of choice, length of train, special additions and any other changes you wish. Once the samples have been discontinued by us or the designer, our sample gowns are considered bargains at up to 75% off the original price.

What about alterations?

The Bridal Boutique has an in-house seamstress and dressmaker who has 35+ years of experience. All alterations are an additional charge. We also do alterations on gowns and dresses purchased elsewhere. Alterations are by appointment only. Payment of services is by cash or local check (Hawaii-based bank) only.

When should I schedule my fittings?

Bridal fittings should begin approximately 4 – 6 weeks before the wedding date. However, we are committed to working with you and your schedule, even if time is of the essence. Appointments must be made for all fittings.

What if I gain/lose weight?

Your gown will be ordered in the size according to measurements taken at the time of purchase. The Bridal Boutique cannot be held responsible for changes in weight. We can accommodate small and major changes with all alterations chargeable to the bride. After a bride has ordered her gown, she should take great care to not dramatically change weight.

Should I wear a veil or tiara?

A veil will truly make you look and feel like a bride, so try on several different lengths, styles and combinations to find a look that is right for you. A tiara is also a great option and can be worn with most veils. If you decide not to wear a veil or tiara, there are plenty of headpiece alternatives such as headbands, bun wraps, hair jewelry or flowers. You can mix and match pieces to get the right headpiece look.

Do I have to wear white?  What if it’s my second wedding?

This is your day to wear whatever style and color gown you want. Rest assured that while white was once reserved for first-time brides, the modern interpretation is that white is a symbol of celebration. Furthermore, there are many color options available today. We offer a selection of beautiful gowns in a variety of shades from ivory to champagne to light gold. We suggest you choose a gown color that is complimentary to your skin tone. We can assist you in determining what color looks best on you.

My bridesmaids live out of town/state, how do I get their sizes?

We prefer to professionally measure each of your bridesmaids. However, if they are not able to come in to be measured they should then go to a reputable bridal store (preferably one that carries the same line) in their area to be measured. Your bridesmaid can then call their measurements in. All bridesmaid dresses should be ordered at the same time and from the same store to eliminate dye lot differences. The Bridal Boutique will do its best to ensure a good fit; however, we cannot be held accountable for measurements taken by others. Please also keep in mind that bridesmaid dresses are ordered in the size that is closest to your bridesmaid’s measurements according to the designer’s size chart. Bridesmaid dresses are not custom made and therefore alterations may be necessary.

My bridesmaids are all different sizes, what is the best dress to choose?

Bridesmaids come in all shapes and sizes, so you will want a lot of options. We offer an extensive selection of dresses that can be ordered in sizes 0-30. With such an amazing assortment of styles and colors, your options are endless.

After choosing your nearest-and-dearest friends to be a part of the big day, consider their style and color preferences as well as their figure types. A-Line and Princess silhouettes are ideal for most figures, as they do not have a distinct waistline and give an uninterrupted, slimming appearance. Choose a color that will flatter your bridesmaids and offer an appropriate complement to your own gown.

Do you dye shoes to match my gown and my bridesmaids?

Yes, we can dye your silk or satin shoes purchased at The Bridal Boutique to match your gown and your bridesmaid gowns. The cost is $15 per pair in addition to the price of the shoes.

Does my mom’s dress have to match my bridesmaids?

Your mother, as well as your groom’s mother, can select from a variety of mother’s dresses that coordinate with your bridesmaid style. We do not suggest a perfect match, however we suggest choosing a similar formality and complementary color scheme.

Will you store my gown after it has arrived?

Yes, we will store your gown until your wedding day free of charge. We will also steam and press your gown before you pick it up all free of charge.

Do you rent tuxedos?

We proudly use Bon Jon’s Formal Wear for our tuxedo rental. They carry the most up-to-date styles and are known for their excellent quality. The groom’s tuxedo is free with six paid rentals.

Will you deliver my gown to my ceremony site?

We will deliver your gown, bridesmaid dresses, and tuxedos in the Honolulu area for a $75 fee. Arrangements need to be made in advance. Delivery outside of Honolulu can be arranged for a fee to be determined based on distance.

What about purchasing on the Internet?

It’s smart to buy some things over the phone and the Internet, but not an item that requires measuring, fittings, alterations, and professional pressing.

Please also be aware of designer gowns for sale on the internet. More likely than not, these “designer gowns” are copies and are of poor quality. If there was ever a time when you deserve quality, it is on your wedding day. Only buy something as important as your wedding gown from an authorized retailer.

    How much do alterations to bridesmaids dresses normally run? and who do i call to make an appointment to get a quote on the alternations?

    • Hi Leslie,

      Thank you for your inquiry. Alteration fees range from $15 (i.e. shorten spaghetti straps) up to and over $150 for a complete size down. On average, alterations will run you between $35 – 85 for hemming and/or taking in/letting out the bust.   3. If there is a dress/dresses on one of your designer’s website that I’d like to try on but you don’t have a sample, would they ship samples for me to try on? I’m a try-before-you-buy kind of girl! Mahalo,

    Im planning on purchasing bridesmaids dresses with the bridal boutique. However, 3 of my bridesmaids live out of state. I understand they will need to get their own measurements done. Wondering when should we order dresses and what’s the latest they can do their alterations?

    • Hi Arlene,

      Thanks for your question, and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

      Your bridesmaid order should be placed at least 5 months prior to your big day. That will allow enough time for delivery and alterations. If you need the dresses sooner, our designers offer rush cut options for delivery in as little as 8-10 weeks for an additional cost.

      Our in-house seamstress will work with your schedule, so if you have bridesmaids that are even arriving a day or two before your wedding we can still take care of their alterations.

    Do you purchase used gowns? I had my wedding 2 weeks ago and have a Pronovias Bengala dress that i’m looking to sell. It is currently getting professionally cleaned and should be done by next week Tuesday 11/25. If not, do you know who will buy dresses locally?

      Thank you for your inquiry. We previously had a consignment program but are not taking in any new gowns at this time. There may be other shops that do consignment but you will have to check with them to see if they do.
